Falcon Pine Kitchens & Furniture are now a well established business
which was formed in 1990 by myself Michael Bartle at the age of 20.....rather a crazy thing to do looking back now !
Having served my apprenticeship at a local company that dealt purely in restoration of antique pine which
gave me an excellent grounding for the need to ensure quality is maintained at all times, i decided to make items as a hobby
in my spare time at weekends and converted an old garden shed into a workshop.
I quickly realised that the items i made from reclaimed timber were proving very popular and as a result
established a regular contact to supply writing desk bureaux to a trade dealer that exported such items to the USA, Holland
and Belgium.
However doing my usual job during the day as well as spending around 20 hours per week in my own time at
nights / weekends from the age of 18 making the bureaux was too much of a workload & so i set about securing premises
at Salterhebble to set up on my own.
The name FALCON PINE was born ! It came about as the individual carving that i had carved into all my work
since i started out in the shed was very similar to the tail feathers of the Falcon but originally i had named the carving
a sunburst carving as it also looks like sun rays.
Purely by coincidence a pub next to my new workshop at Salterhebble was known as The Falcon Inn and with
that i mind the sunburst tag went and the carving became known as the tail feathers of the Falcon and hence the business name
of FALCON PINE.
At first we combined our local retail sales of our own products from new timber, with the continued sale
of bureaux to the trade. However after 2 years we decided to concentrate purely on our own retail market with the public &
now we rarely do any work for trade dealers for furniture but have done several large fitted bedrooms & fitted kitchens
for trade contacts.
Eleven years on and the premises at Salterhebble were simply too small & was preventing us from
expanding into the many areas of the pine industry that we now represent. So we set about moving across town to North Bridge
& into our present location which is a beutiful period stone built building steeped in history and in a very prominent
position.
After 5 years of gutting the building and slowly making alterations to create showrooms on all levels
and a top class workshop, we are now at the point where we can see the light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully over the
next year all the final showrooms and new displays will be complete to allow us to put all our efforts solely into completing
orders & boosting showroom stock.
The business now offers a vast array of original antique pine furniture which is painstakingly restored using
traditional techniques , in most cases the antiques arrive in a bad state before we bring them back to their former glory!
To compliment the antiques we now have over 400 original atique stripped pine doors which we have restored
& have a full fitting service which includes supply & fitting of original moldings / architraves / skirtings of which
we have huge stocks on display as well in storage.
The reproduction furniture from new pine is still hugely popular & we have large stocks of many
different types throughout the building on each floor.
The Falcon`s Tail carving which we add by hand ensures that an individual touch is given to every piece of
furniture we make & the fact that we make everything to order means it will always be in demand.
Over the last few years we have branched out into other areas of the pine industry by doing much more interior
joinery than we have in the past.
Whilst we stay away from the basic outdoor joinery & also the more `odd job` type joinery, we do now
offer such as timber flooring from either reclaimed original boards or new timber which can also be in oak as well as pine.
We now fit the stripped Victorian internal doors as well as supplying & fitting original antique skirting
boards / architraving to compliment the doors & flooring.
Spindle balustrades with Newall posts are also available from us, we can remove out of date ones to put back
into old homes the original type that would have been fitted manay years ago.
We also can sand & varnish or wax existing floorboards that customers may wish us to renovate, basically
we do everything that there is to do with pine & it is a long time ago when we just concentrated on furniture !
