FALCON BLOW 2 GOAL LEAD
FALCON 4 CARRINGTON 5 (AET)
90 MINS 4-4
W.CROSSEY 2 (1 PEN)
Wayne Crossley was again in fine goalscoring form as he bagged 2 goals, but Falcon keep shooting
themselves in the foot by losing leads and hopefully this will not effect their league form.
Young Callium Huggon set Pine on the way with a headed goal from a Chris Smart free kick. And
Crossley added another from a free kick after good work down the right by captain Steve Scholey.
But at 2-0 up and cruising to a comfortable win, Pine allowed Carrington a glimmer of hope when
sloppy play in midfield and lead to Sutcliffe stabbing the ball home from close range after the defence also didnt stop him
getting through.
After the interval, another blunder made the scoreline level as Chris Smart hesitated to allow
his opponent West to convert a gift of a goal.
But Falcon rallyied and were handed a lifeline as the stand in ref awarded a clear penalty which
Crossley despatched with ease.
And man of the match, Pine legend Matty Holroyd scored a fine solo goal soon after to make it
4-2.
With half an hour still on the clock but Carrington always causing problems with a 5 man midfield,
manager Bartle introduced himself and Scott Allinson to shore up the midfield as both players have excellent defensive qualities
and both did well when introduced as Pine could have added several more goals.
But with just 8 minutes left on the clock and the game seemingly safe, match winner Wayne Crossley
was withdrawn to give Scot Aked a run out after the fans on the touchline had been chanting his name.
The plan backfired in spectacular fashion as almost immediatley normally reliable full back John
Bailey had a moment of madness by backheeling a ball to an opponent who raced down the wing, crossed and yet again Falcon
had conceded a terrible goal !
With Carrington`s team full of youngsters they then plouged forward sensing a shock and they
got their rewards when a needless foul by Steve Scholey lead to a goal headed in directly from the free kick.
4-4 the final score and onto extra time.
The first period saw no real chances either end, Falcon`s attack being decimated by the lack
of Crossley although Aked did nothing wrong.
And in the 2nd period it was Carrington who were still in control as Falcon became a shadow of
the side that were in control with 8 minutes to go.
It was no surprise when a corner 3 minutes from time fell to the feet of Sutcliffe who banged
the ball in for the winner.
