BRADSHAW PHEONIX V FALCON PINE 2000 FC.

0-0

In a keenly contested division 2 game played in excellent conditions at Natty Lane, these two side who were relegated last season seem to have quickly found their feet and on the evidence shown both should be capable of mounting a serious promotion challenge.

The final result was a rare 0-0 draw which is almost unheard of in Sunday league football, and it was no surprisewhen both keepers were awarded man of the match by their opponents.

Wayne Kenny in the Pheonix net was called on to clean up behind the Bradshaw back four on numerous occasions, whilst his counterpart Luke Craggs earned deserved praise from his manager Bob Bartle after the game `LUKE CRAGGS IS A KEEPER THAT PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT VERY HIGHLY THESE DAYS, HE`S ONLY JUST TURNED 18 YEARS OLD AND WHILST WE HAD TO BE PATIENT WITH HIM LAST SEASON AS HE GOT TO KNOW THE LADS - ITS BEEN WORTH IT AS HE IS CLASS NOW.
THE WHOLE TEAM HAVE CONFIDENCE IN HIM AND ITS RARE TO FIND SUCH A YOUNG TALENT.`

With the Falcon defenders playing very well, shots were limited to distance shooting but nothing was going to get past the inspired young custodian and likewise the more experienced Kenny in the Pheonix net - who in the dying seconds of the game had to save a thunderous shot from Matt Holroyd on the edge of the box.
Adam Probets went close with a back header from one of a series of hugely long throw-ins from pine skipper Steve Scholey.

The game ebbed and flowed with ref Mick Redmile contributing to an excellent game with his use of the advantage rule and common sense approach, both teams giving him deserved high marks.

Bradshaw had a lot of possession with Pell and Ridehalgh showing some good play, but Falcon matched everything Pheonix had, and are a good defensive unit with each player well drilled in his own role in the team but need to improve linking the midfield up with the attack.

A good advert for division 2 football and it will be interesting to see how both teams cope in this division.
